Creative Snacking!
Forget those sugary snacks! Try these, they're good for your health and your mind!
Time in the Burgess household is rather taken up by a building project at the moment- you know - buying materials, chasing artisans, researching vmc’s… blah blah blah. Yes, I know that’s to be expected but holy moly, I’m an artist and itching to get in front of that easel…
…AND maintain my exercise regime 💪. The latter of those two things is slightly less appealing, I have to say, but at 66, I'm damned if I'm going to become decrepit.
Ok, to my point… at several times in a day that’s overflowing with bullet lists of thangs to do, the urge will come upon me to have a snack. Now my addiction for sugar used to lead me by the hand to the biscuit tin (cookie jar for the Americans amongst us) BUT NOW, I respond to whatever creative itch needs to be scratched like
“ooh, that artwork needs a bit of collage just there in the bottom left-hand corner”
“Okay, painting in progress, I hear you, you need some Orange just about… there?”
“I feel a five minute blind sketch coming on”
Oh, I must get this sketch down on paper for my next series

And often…
“oh shit, I must clean those brushes that have two days worth of paint on them” (can anybody recommend a good brush cleaner by the way? One to get acrylic paint off brushes)
Exercise snacks are fun too. Here are some of mine that you may like to try :
The Big Four (thanks to Zach Bush bush, the lush!) Do look it up as it's so good for you and only takes 4 minutes
Walking up and down a flight of stairs very slowly, carrying weight in each hand (2 minutes depending on your living space)
Zone 2 on the X-trainer. Okay, I know that takes a lot longer (for me 45 minutes) but it doesn't have make you feel better afterwards.
Hand mobility exercises for Those if you like me, who have arthritis (5 minutes). Try these from Virtual Hand Care on YouTube, simple but effective.
Well, that’s all from me for now. I hope you have found this useful and amusing and if you’d like to know more about me and my art, please take a look at my website Hazel Burgess Art
“Move or lose it” to maintain your mobility! I love your suggestions
As I just finished an emotional fig newton, myself, I rather prefer your creative snacking approach! 💜
